Kolkata, August 17, 2022: Technology-driven, oncology focused, managed healthcare platform, Karkinos Healthcare, founded in July 2020, is launching its cancer care services in West Bengal.

Karkinos’ mission is to ensure that no one is denied quality cancer care due to lack of access or affordability. Tata Group, Reliance Industries, Mayo Clinic, and Rakuten Medical Inc. are among the world’s leading organizations that have invested in Karkinos Healthcare. The company has also partnered with Tata Memorial Hospital, Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust (UK), and has inked several research collaborations with leading academic institutions in the United States to stay on the cutting edge of oncology treatment and care.

Karkinos is primarily focused on early detection and in getting the right diagnostics using a managed care approach. With advances in technology, it is now possible to receive primary and preventive care with minimal personal visits to a doctor. The company’s digitally-enabled community risk assessment tool, (available to download from Google Play Store and Apple Store) where a set of clinically peer-reviewed questions, covering six common cancers, are self-administered to assess if a person is at high cancer risk. High risk individuals are then navigated through Karkinos’ proprietary Command Center. The individual needing care is directed to the nearest Karkinos center for consultation and further investigation, as required.

“In West Bengal, we are attempting to reach the maximum eligible population for risk assessment and screening through a variety of mediums, including community outreach through NGO’s and like-minded organizations, as well as digital channels,” says Dr. Akhter Jawade, Director East, Karkinos Healthcare.

For continued care, Karkinos is establishing a Distributed  Cancer Care Network in partnership with private and government health facilities. Its intention is to break the barrier of access to cancer care by offering the care in a distributed fashion in small towns and districts, closer to the patients, and convenient to the family. The availability of the care closer to home will encourage the patients to visit the doctors at the first sign of cancer symptoms, seek the help faster and earlier.

“To build the Distributed Cancer Care Network in Bengal, Karkinos is inviting several care delivery centers who can provide the necessary care to the patients. These centers will aim at delivering multidisciplinary care from general physicians, gynecologists, oral care experts, oncologists, etc., along with pathology, imaging, as well as treatment such as surgical care, chemotherapy, radiation, and targeted therapy,”  explained Dr. Jawade. Karkinos has initiated the on-boarding of several such care providers across the state of West Bengal and is also in advanced stages of discussion to on-board many others from various cities in the state.

Commenting about Karkinos’ expansion in West Bengal, R Venkataramanan, Founder and CEO, Karkinos Healthcare, said, “Our pilot programs launched and implemented in Kerala during the COVID pandemic, in partnership with several health facilities were successful, and now we wish to expand the operations in West Bengal. Early detection and diagnosis while providing better access to care will help to reduce financial expenditure, improve the quality of life and improve patient outcomes. Karkinos will strive to improve the cancer care access and delivery in the state and make a significant impact to the quality of lives of people of West Bengal.”
