Cancer incidences in Tamil Nadu

The state of Tamil Nadu has been witnessing a gradual increase in cancer cases along with the rest of the country. Delayed diagnosis and late start of treatment is often the cause of this endemic. Less than onethird of cases are detected in the first and second stages. Compared to 53,022 cancer cases in 2012, Tamil Nadu saw a sharp increase in the new cases registered with a total 81,814 cancer cases in 2021, as per a state government report shared earlier this year. Among women, breast cancer is prevalent in the state with an incidence rate of 25.5 per 1,00,000 women, as per Tamil Nadu Cancer Registry Project Report 2021.
