Sundar is an independent advisor and management consultant with 25 + years of experience in business spanning marketing, advertising, Entertainment and sports.
He is currently a Director at Reliance Foundation Youth Sports. He was the Chief Operating Office of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since inception in 2008 credited with building India’s largest sports start up in IPL and bringing BCCI to centerstage in world cricket. During his leadership stint at BCCI he managed revenue growth enabling BCCI to become the richest body in world cricket. He also established and served as the CEO of Champions League – world club cricket championship From 2008,he has helped shape the growth of cricket globally and catalyse growth of professional sports in India. Sundar was instrumental in refocusing cricket and enabling it reach newer audience through innovation, use of technology and unrelenting focus on fans grounded on strong consumer understanding.
Between 2015-20 he led Reliance’s ambitions in sports as its CEO managing JVs including with Disney & IMG and helped consolidate and integrate RIL’s sports portfolio. From a disaggregated set of sporting events he helped consolidate and lay a strong foundation for growth of football through Indian Super League (ISL) and other Olympic sports in India. He also led Reliance foundation’s activities in sport aimed at building a sustainable grassroot sports eco system and initiating national level school and college sports reaching out to over 21mn kids across the length and breath of India.
He has served on several working groups at the International Cricket council and served as a member of ICCs integrity working group aimed to strength anti corruption code.
Prior to his stint with BCCI, Sundar served as the Managing Director of WPP Inc flagship media advisory company MindShare. He developed a strong background in consumer understanding and investment management during his time at WPP handling major portfolio of clients including Unilever, GSK amongst others.
Sundar is a graduate in Applied Sciences and a Post Graduate in Marketing & Communications from Mumbai University. He is also certified in BlockChain from Univ of California, Berkeley. He serves as a board advisor in a many startups in Edtech, Sport tech, Blockchain and Consumer insights analytics firms
